VCR 90.6

The 15th Annual Tour de Walkerville took place on Sunday, 1st May 2011

Our motto is “Worker’s Day is Walker’s Day in Walkerville!  Whether you chose to walk, ride a horse, a bicycle, or even a tractor, build a float, or ride a motorbike, you will have a great time on Sunday 1st May 2011!

Once again we sold more tickets, raised more money and give away more prizes this year.  We did it with YOUR help and support!

The official sponsors for the 2011 Tour de Walkerville were the Walkerville Friendly Grocer, Country Living Estates and Vaal Community Radio 90.6.  The Tour de Walkerville was also endorsed by the Sunflower Fund.

Every cent of the walker’s entry fees, participation fees from the venues, as well as donations from local businesses and other generous individuals goes to the charities registered with the Tour de Walkerville.

Sponsorships & Donations

(Our fund raising number is 054-705)

Each year we approach potential sponsors to donate prizes so that we can make up little hampers for the lucky ticket holders on each stop of the race.  Something from your stock or a gift voucher would be most appropriate as a prize.  The value need not be exorbitant; it really is the thought that counts.  The names of the sponsors are always mentioned during the lucky draw, and off course you will also be mentioned in the Community News.  We hope that you will support us in our effort to recognise the enthusiasm and generosity of the hundreds of walkers, who while having a lot of fun, also manage to raise several thousand rand for local charities.  Helen Glyn (on 082 912 6367) is the prize co-ordinator, and she will be happy to assist with any queries you may have.

If you would also like to make a monetary contribution to the Tour’s fund raising efforts, please contact Jeremy Glyn on 082 852 3747 to arrange a meeting.

Registration & Details of the Walk

Entrance is R20 per person and you may register on the morning of the walk at the Walkerville Showgrounds but please get there early.  Registration takes place at 07h30 and the Tour will kick off at 09h00.  Tickets are currently on sale at the Walkerville Showgrounds, Serendipity Book Exchange and Selective DVD Store.  Marshals will be on hand to get everyone off to a smooth start and assist along the way.  All venues will have water on hand for horses and dogs.  Please remember that if you do bring your dog on the walk, it must be on a leash, and be socialised.

Details of the participating venues and the route will be posted on the website once they are confirmed.

It is important to remember that this fun, family day does have a more serious side to it, and that is to raise funds to assist the many charitable organisations in the area.  Their day to day existence depends on the goodwill of donors and often they do not have the funds to pay for larger needs.  The couple of thousand rand they receive from this event makes a big difference.

If you are not able to make the walk, you may make a donation – please see contact details under Donations & Sponsorships.

Good luck to the walkers!
